Our support

The Pershing Square Foundation supported Mount Sinai's initiative in partnership with NYC Public Schools to expand COVID-19 testing to students. There were a total of approximately 600,000 COVID tests administered during this program.

The Pershing Square Foundation also allocated funding towards COVID-19 research undertaken by the institutions associated with its talented PSSCRA community. We sought our scientific advisors’ knowledge and expertise to solicit proposals from researchers at their respective institutions whose work they deemed exceptional and could not only make an impact on the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but also other diseases. Our hope is that the synergy amongst cancer research, immunotherapy, genetics, and epigenetics might shed new light on COVID research, expand our basic scientific knowledge, and strengthen our arsenal for current and future health crises. This funding to Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai went to Dr. Eirini Papapetrou to support her project “Genetic Determinants of COVID-19 Disease Severity” and Drs. Santosha Vardhana and Omar Abdel-Wahab to support their project, “Leveraging cancer-driven immune dysregulation to understand and enhance anti-COVID-19 immunity.”

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai received a $4.6 million gift from The Pershing Square Foundation to support women’s health research and advance careers for female scientists. Part of an original nearly $21 million gift that expanded a COVID-19 testing program for New York City schools and other organizations, this boost in women-focused initiatives connects The Pershing Square Foundation’s interest in supporting women in science to Mount Sinai’s leading researchers and key initiatives in gender-based science and health.
